1.2 Diesel Engine

Objectives

After the completion of this course the trainees will independently
be able to
  • Understand the diesel engine technology as well as air and water cooled diesel engines.
  • Perform measurement by different measuring instruments and know the acceptable tolerances and carry out proper rectification.
  • Identify the components/ parts found common in a conventional diesel engine and quantify spare parts necessary for repair.
  • Disassemble repair and reassemble a diesel engine (overhauling) and perform test runs
  • Perform engine fault diagnosis describe possible causes and take correct action to rectify the faults.
  • Diagnose and demonstrate faulty injectors, replace and correctly time on in - line and rotary injection pump.
  • Disassemble repair and reassemble the the turbocharger, blower and after coolers.
  • Follow personal and work area safety requirements.
